ASTM Provisional standard PS-042 for measuring airborne oilmist, requires that sampling of the atmosphere be done using a 2µm PTFE membrane. After sampling, the membrane needs to be extracted by a "cocktail" of strong solvents. These solvents can not be used to directly
extract the filter in the styrene sampling cassette because the solvents used would attack the styrene cassettes.
It is therefore necessary to remove the filter and extract it in a different apparatus. Omega has developed a 37mm 4-piece cassette, made entirely of polypropylene (Diagram 1)
which will allow extraction directly in the sampling cassette. By arranging the apparatus as shown you can proceed to extract the filter
without removal from the cassette.
Advantages
- No loss of sample on the walls of the sampling cassette.
- Polypropylene cassette and support pad, withstands solvent attack.
- No cross contamination from one sample to the next.
- No need to clean funnel between tests.
